I saw someone suggest we reframe “social distancing” as “social solidarity” and I couldn’t agree more. This isn’t about fear. This is about protecting one another.
So, taking this thought one step further, it got me thinking how we could help protect and support one another in BUSINESS as well as in health?
Talk about your favourite businesses on social media, and like, comment and share one another’s content to boost exposure and engagement.
Purchase a gift certificate from a small business.
Shop online.
Consider accepting store credit instead of asking for a refund on a cancelled service.
If you have a friend doing it tough, coordinate a meal delivery for them sourced from one of the many family-owned restaurants forced to close their doors for reservations. (A lot of businesses are instead offering delivery or curb-side pickup.)
Go and write a glowing review about a small business who you value.
Tip a little more than usual (if you’re in a tipping culture) or just tip PERIOD if you’re in a non-tipping culture like Australia. Every extra dollar is appreciated.
Sign up for online experiences being offered by closed businesses (like gyms and teaching/training facilities).
Check in with a small business owner and ask if there’s anything you can do to help.
Collaborate! Partner (virtually) with a fellow business owner to support one another, whether that’s through offering a combined product or service, hosting a giveaway, or simply doing an IG Live together to share your experiences and give others the opportunity to participate in the conversation and feel less alone!
