Why did you start your business?
It goes without saying that no one starts a business because being self employed is the “easy option”!
Sure, you might be drawn to particular aspects such as the apparent flexibility, choice of work hours, being your own boss, and so on—but these are rarely your WHY. They’re perks of pursuing your own business. (And they’re also perks that are often very different in reality! But I digress.)
The point is, you started your business for a reason that’s far deeper than any of these, but it’s probably a reason you haven’t reflected on in a while.
Recently I revisited my first “brain dump” document of notes I had written when I was coming up with my business concept for The Strategy Studio back in January 2018! The document is 6 pages long… I’ll spare you the detail, but here’s a couple of my favourite lines.
I don’t want them to need to hire a digital marketing agency every time they need new content. I don’t want them to need to hire a copywriter every time they need more Instagram captions, or ideas for a blog post. And I definitely don’t want overwhelm or a lack of resources to hold them back from reaching the true potential of themselves and their business.
That is my WHY. And re-reading it made so much sense.
It’s the reason I spend hours every week writing Instagram content.
It’s the reason I jump at the chance to share my knowledge on webinars, podcasts, IG Lives etc.
It’s the reason I started The Strategy Studio Small Business Group Facebook page.
It’s the reason I still get a buzz jumping on a Strategy Session with a client, 100+ sessions on from when I first started.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, defeated or simply lacking motivation at the moment, I encourage you to revisit your WHY.
It may be the kindling that fire inside of you needs right now.
