I’m tired of opening social media or my inbox every day and being bombarded with promises of “revolutionary methods” or “secrets” or “strategies to transform your business” overnight.
Let’s be honest here:
Rather than trying to foster any kind of genuine growth in our businesses, these types of marketing campaigns offering “highly sought-after” programs are just exploiting our fears in the hope of a sale.
My opinion: Stop investing in online courses and programs from people who are simply monetising your scarcity mindset.
I’m equally sick of being pitched to by people who are no longer “walking the walk”. Sure, there’s a hell of a lot you can learn from the experiences of people who have years of knowledge in your industry, and there’s a time and place for that kind of inspiration and input. But I personally find the best investments I’ve made over the past 5 years have been learning from people who are only a few steps ahead of me in their business journey.
They know enough to guide me on common pitfalls to avoid, but they’re still close enough to my experience to know or at least remember what it was like. They’re also most likely to give me what I call real world strategies; the strategies you actually have the time and resources to implement, rather than “ideal world” strategies which would be nice, but just aren’t realistic based on the budget / capacity / team / time that you have.
My opinion: Seek out experts who are still walking the walk, are generous with their knowledge and honest about their experience. Bonus points if they tell you WHY they’ve created the course or program they’re promoting!
Now let’s call out the elephant in the room. Yes, I’m currently promoting an online offering myself, my ChatGPT Marketing Masterclass on May 29.
But I’m not going to try and sell out that Masterclass by telling you that your business will be left behind if you don’t embrace AI or that AI is the “secret to marketing success”. (Firstly, I don’t believe that, and secondly I don’t use fear-based sales tactics.)
What I will tell you is that I was an early-adopter of ChatGPT and I use it every day in my business to help me with content. (Yes, every. single. day.) I taught myself how to use it initially, and then paid to upskill learning from other experts.
Every time I’d talk with a client about using ChatGPT, they’d ask when I was going to teach an online class about it. So, after I’d done all of the experimentation myself to find the most efficient and effective ways to use ChatGPT for marketing, I did just that so I could share the helpful parts of what I’d learned with others.
I’m not a super techy person. I can’t use an Excel spreadsheet to save myself. There’s huge parts of AI I have absolutely no idea about.
But ChatGPT? I get it. I know how to use it. It’s something I truly believe can be an asset to your content marketing. (After this class I actually think you’ll agree with me it’s your #1 tool in your marketing toolkit.) I know how to teach you, step-by-step, to make that your reality.
That’s exactly what we do in this 90-minute Masterclass. You follow along with me and I teach you how to prompt ChatGPT for help with things like:
I also teach you how to thoroughly educate ChatGPT on your brand so it generates useful copy that actually sounds like you and isn’t filled with generic clichés or like your chatbot was on drugs.
And I know it works — because the strategies I teach I used to help me craft this newsletter. 😉🤭 Or did I…
In summary: Times are tight. We’re all watching where we spend our hard-earned dollars. If you’re looking to learn / be coached / upskill in some aspect of your business, invest it in someone who markets from a place of generosity and value, not fear and scarcity.
Learn how to make ChatGPT the best tool in your marketing toolkit with my 90-minute Masterclass, uniquely designed for small businesses.
