Have you ever found yourself posting on social media just because you feel like you have to? Sending out a newsletter simply because it’s on your to-do list?
It’s time to stop with what I call “placeholder marketing”. You don’t need it. It’s not serving you, and it’s not serving your audience.
We can all spot “marketing for the sake of marketing” from a mile away these days. It doesn’t inspire us, engage us, or make us want to invest our time or money. Instead, we connect with brands that make us feel seen and part of their community. These are the brands that excite us, keep us coming back, and make us want to stay up-to-date with what they have to offer.
Your business can do that, too! And it doesn’t need to be complicated. Not every post needs a lengthy caption and to deliver some nugget of wisdom. But it DOES need to make sense in the context of what you want your brand to be known for. Most of all, it needs to be meaningful.
Here’s how:
Focus on Quality Over Quantity
Instead of churning out content to meet a self-imposed quota, take the time to craft posts and emails that resonate. Share stories, insights, and updates that matter to your audience. When your content is genuinely valuable, people are more likely to engage with it.
Involve Your Audience
Invite your followers to be part of your journey. Ask for their opinions, share behind-the-scenes looks, and make them feel like insiders. When people feel involved, they’re more likely to stay engaged.
Don’t Fear the Algorithm
Worried about the algorithm? Don’t be. If you’re posting for the sake of posting, chances are your engagement rates are already suffering. Less content that your audience loves is far more valuable than frequent content that gets ignored.
Be Authentic
Authenticity wins every time. Be honest and transparent in your communications. Your audience will appreciate the realness and be more likely to trust and engage with your brand.

This 👆 isn’t “placeholder marketing”. It’s PERSONALITY. Big difference.
And I’d take a red-hot bet that this kinda content is going to get WAY more engagement than any inspirational quote you’ve thrown up because “you didn’t know what to post today”.
