Do you remember my “40 in 40” list last year… those 40 things to do in my 40th year? Well one of the items on the list was to find a hobby. I was always envious of people who had hobbies! If you’d asked me what I did for fun, I would have said running or reading… but neither of those really felt like a hobby. 

I wanted an activity I’d do instead of going back to my computer and working or otherwise mindless scrolling my phone for no good reason! (Ugh. That doom scrolling!)

So anyway, you probably saw on social media that I experimented. Paint by numbers, clay work, embroidery, watercolour painting, sewing, floral design, bath bomb making… I tried it all and equally loved them all! Turns out I didn’t need one specific hobby—I just needed to slow down and rediscover the joy of creativity!

Creating purely for the sake of it (with no deadline or productivity pressure) gave me something I hadn’t realised I was missing: a way to unwind. I was calmer. Less stressed. Less anxious. And, honestly? I enjoyed that Tahnée’s company a lot more! 😂

Every time I shared what I was making or working on with girlfriends, the response would be “I wish I could do that. Where do you find these ideas?”

Then, during a six-week social media detox over Christmas, I started dreaming: “What if I could give this feeling to other women? What if I could take the mental load out of mindfulness and create something that delivered creativity straight to their door?”

That’s when Unwind Co was born. (Yes! In case you missed it, I started another business!) A seasonal box of beautiful, screen-free creative projects to help women rediscover the joy of creativity while experiencing more mindful moments. (And less doom scrolling!)
