Just getting started with social media for business and don’t know where to start?
Here’s 3 steps to help you get started on your social media marketing adventure with a solid (and achievable) action plan.
STEP 1: Identify your target audience and their social media habits.
- Demographics: Things like age, gender identity, occupation, location. Think of this as your quantitative date → more “traditional” statistics.
- Psychographics: Think about their goals, beliefs, motivations, fears, pain points. These are the more emotional characteristics of your target client.
- Social Media Habits: What platforms do they use and what types of content do they like to engage with?
STEP 2: Determine your goals
What are you wanting to achieve from your social media accounts?
- Increase brand awareness
- Boost your authority
- Generate leads
- Build a community
- Drive website traffic
- Make sales
- Start a client wait list.
The action you take and the platform(s) you use will depend on what you’re trying to achieve and where your ideal client interacts online.
STEP 3: Develop content categories.
This step is all about what you’re going to say on social media.
You want to identify:
- The themes that help you communicate the value your business can bring.
- How you can best showcase your point of difference with your audience.
I recommend 5 to 8 Content Categories that you rotate through with your content.
Here’s an example of content categories for a FLORIST.
- Education: Everything about blooms! When they’re in season, how & where they’re grown, why they cost what they do etc.
- Values: What does your brand stand for? If sustainability is a pillar of your brand, share how your brand embodies this value.
- Process: This is your BTS. What does it take to deliver your service? The easiest way to justify price is through sharing your process!
- About: Introduce your audience to the people behind the brand that make everything happen!
- Services: What do you provide? How does it work? How do people work with you?
- Portfolio & Testimonial: Sharing examples of your work + testimonials from customers & clients.
You now know:
- Who you’re trying to communicate with.
- Where they engage online (and the platforms you’ll use).
- Why you’re going to use social media.
- What you’re going to talk about.
Now it’s time to start creating content and sharing!
