Let’s talk about “Unnecessary Marketing”… Are you doing it?
Unnecessary marketing is the marketing you do because you think you SHOULD—not because it’s tied to any business goal.
→ It’s the Reel you sit on the couch making at night because you haven’t posted a Reel lately and you don’t want the algorithm to forget you.
→ It’s the huge month’s worth of content you batch despite not having availability to serve new clients until 2024.
→ It’s the Instagram Live series you commit to every night for a week because you feel guilty about not showing up enough on social media.
None of these marketing acts are “bad”—in the right context these are all excellent ideas. It’s the WHY that’s important.
WHY are you doing it?
– Do you need to generate more inquiries?
– Is brand awareness a key goal of yours this year?
– Do you have an upcoming launch you need to warm up your audience for?
Your marketing needs to have purpose.
Running a small business is hard enough without spending countless hours on tasks you don’t *really* have time for and that aren’t tied to a particular goal you’re trying to achieve.
I’m not saying to stop marketing! I’m saying to be honest with yourself about why you’re doing it.
→ Need more clients? What would happen if you made 3 less reels this month but instead sent a newsletter to re-engage with your email list?
→ Fully booked until 2024? What if you cut back your Instagram posting to once or twice a week for a couple months… just enough to stay present.
Effort V Reward. Put your effort where it’s deserved, and stop letting “should” drive your marketing strategy.
Life’s too short to spend it doing “unnecessary marketing”!
